"If she remembers, she hides it whenever we meet..." [Dec. 20th, 2005|06:25 pm]

[mood |busybusy]
[music |Neil Young - "Falling Off The Face Of The Earth"]

Here's the photo you talked about
The one that got you recognized by a stranger
Taking you off guard
She knew you from me and this picture
Her saying hello made you uneasy
At least in this regard

I never understood why
Did you not like your outfit
Or the look on your face
Or was it that I shared this picture
Addressed to me with others
Now you stand out in this unmarked place

I couldn't not look away
I couldn't not try
I could say I never noticed
But I just could not lie

I do a crappy job of making it seem like I don't think about you all the time, and I know I've done an even crappier job of acknowledging that recently. I take nothing for granted.

[mood |awakeawake]
[music |Denison Whitmer - "Are You a Dreamer?"]

He drove a rusted out beat-up stationwagon
She nicknamed it Boxcar Joe
He traded in the paints and loose ladders for luggage
Drove to the outskirts north of Buffalo
Stopping only for gas and a pack of Ultra lights
He took that Boxcar Joe for a ride
The miles set him further away from Atlanta
And closer to his darling's side

The tires run wild on the interstate
And his eyes won't dare to go closed
He's got her picture on the dash and her voice in his head
When it comes blasting from the radio
That song from the night they drove in one direction
Just looking for the next best thing
And he listens again over the motor and the wind
It's the one song he's heard her sing

She went off to school and made her place in the crowd
And New York called her like an insecure fate
He was in and out of trouble but kept it to himself
And never ralized 'til she left he was too late
He was working for the city painting porches on Main Street
And saved every dime he was payed
To fix up Boxcar Joe enough to be driven to her
And come through on promises he never made

Tonight Buffalo is shrouded in a new moon
And Joe just can't take no more
The boy's steering the wheel while pushing uphill
'Til he can see the light on her front door
She sees the rusted old chariot carried out in the night
After all this time, she still loves him the same
He says, "I got a pack of smokes, your picture, and Boxcar Joe.
And I'm hoping just to hear you say my name."

"When your brown eyes close, do blue skies open up?" [Nov. 24th, 2005|01:53 am]

[mood |thoughtfulthoughtful]
[music |Joni Mitchell - "A Case Of You"]

It is officially Thanksgiving so here goes...

Dad: Thanks for continually looking past all the stupid shit I do to realize that maybe somewhere in there, I am really trying. You are more than a dad, you are a mentor and wise beyond your own belief.

Mom: I know we have had our ups and downs, and I blame myself for being too stubborn to stop the downs, but I feel we have rebuilt some of what was lost. I love you more than I usually say.

Nick: While you hate to be referred to as my wingman, God knows I have much more fun when you are around. I am happy to see you enjoying the college life that maybe I just never fit into, but it certainly fits you, bro. I am so happy you found Laura and continue to delight in how your relationship has blossomed. And far be it for you to believe, someday I just may be as cool as you.

Dustin: Thanks for being the first person in line to knock me off my soapbox, you have every right to, little man. Needless to say, we fight a whole lot, but I promise that this, along with a lot of that other stuff you've been dealing with, will pass. While I don't say it as often as I should, you are doing just fine, and I love you bro. Just don't do anything too rediculous, like challenging Nick or me to a fist fight.

Bruce and Tela: You need to learn that Dog Food is just as edible as human food, so quit nipping at my Cheesy Gordita Crunch.

Walgreens Thanks for the paychecks; keep 'em coming.

Chris Abbott: Thanks for your words of insight in the most bizarre of circumstances and entrusting me with the knowledge of pool cleaning 101. Your summer job kept me afloat and opened the door directly to me getting employed by Walgreens.

Pete Zefo: My main man and truly wise youth pastor of Gateway. Thanks for the constant stream of insight, gospel, and poker games.

Willy Rat: the closest thing to Jaco I can afford. You have been a comrade for so long. Thanks for being a wonderful friend.

Anna: You are in a catagory all by yourself. What can I say that I haven't said before? I'm thankful to have known you as I do these past 4 1/2 years. It means more to me than I have been able to express and more than you'd probably believe. It's all true; every bit of it. You are something else, and that is what drives me crazy.

"Part of you pours out of me in these lines from time to time." [Nov. 23rd, 2005|12:04 am]
Jon
[mood |sicksick]
[music |Ben Lee - "Into the Dark"]

For most it is a busy time
For me it goes by oh so slow
Like the rainy days she spent in Chicago
Laughing over some coffee
She writes the words to her own song
Wondering all the while where it is she belongs

She's keen on the life she's living
No regrets and happy hours
You can say anything she can't see
But ever cautious to accept the flowers
She's staring at the sun
While waiting for someone to bring her the moon
She's my kind of June

Inspiration comes in her smile
Just like it always used to do
Back when both of us were in school
I watch her, head on as she soars
In that race for her grand prize
Does she see me in the corner of her eyes

She's giving me everything
And she says I've lost it all
And it rains over me in waves
The very next time she calls
And I miss her when she's gone
All the sweeter when she's home soon
She's my kind of June

She's my wildwood weed
In my heart there lays the seed
Every pettle shines bright in her sun, indeed
She's my wildwood weed

I'll never break her heart
'Cause I can't be that tough
And maybe all we'll do is talk
But baby, that's enough
So I sat down and wrote out this tune
Just to tell you
You're my kind of June

[music |Blues Traveler - "Just Wait"]

I just woke up and can't get back to sleep...

Here's the chorus to the song I didn't sing tonight...

Add that candle to the top
It's time to see you smile
Make a wish and blow them out
And keep that wish hidden
I promise I won't ask about it
Just tell me that you're as happy
As you have ever been

I love you.

This was by far one of the most energetic, all-around fun shows I have been to. And my first String Cheese show couldn't have been more fulfilling musically. They did nearly all my favorites. "Louisiana" made me cry. Mega powerful. "Ring of Fire" was a hell of a surprise. Plus I got "Rollover", "It Is What It Is", "'Round the Wheel", and "San Jose". Can't wait to see them again.

Tomorrow I have the day off. Funny as I have no plans but laundry. That's how I party.

[music |Dave Matthews Band - "Say Goodbye"]

It has been quite a bit since my last update.

- I now have a full time job working the floor as service clerk at Walgreen's in East Cobb. I've been there for about two weeks now, and it has been really great, something new to sink into.

- We saw the Allman Brothers Band and moe. at HiFi Buys Amphitheatre. Allmans rocked so hard. moe. were 10 times better than the show at the Fox in March.

- I finally got my starter fixed on the car.

- Much like the name of the Wilco tune, "I'm Always in Love"

- String Cheese Incident this Saturday at the Fox

- Got my ticket to see the mighty, mighty DRIVE BY TRUCKERS at the Tabernacle in November

- I am enjoying looking forward to every next day.

"Lord, you know it makes me high when you turn your love my way..."

Turn your love my way.

[music |Van Morrison - "Caravan"]

While all else crumbles, I am happy. Super happy and excited than ever before.

"You can't climb 'til you're ready to fall."

'Lord of War' was good, better than expected. Now to see 'Green Street Hooligans'. That looks kick-ass.

"It's a brand new a era, it feels great."

Anna digs Centro-matic. Very cool.

Now to see if she can stand Pavement. 'Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain' or 'Slanted and Enchanted'?
